Garfield Wellness Center Wins Preservation Award!
Posted 1.25.2021
Congratulations to Santa Ana Unified School District for being awarded the City of Santa Ana’s Historic Resources Commission’s top award for Restoration for the Garfield Elementary Wellness Center. Morrissey Associates partnered with Santa Ana Unified to transform this Landmark 1907 brick building. Originally built as the Pacific Electric Railway Substation No. 14, it provided power to the Red Car streetcar system that connected much of Southern California in the early 20th Century. The building had fallen into disrepair after the railway was shut down decades ago. It recently found a new life and purpose serving as a community Wellness Center for the Garfield Elementary School community.
